About the speaker:
Dr. Andrew Aken blends deep technical expertise with executive‑level leadership in cybersecurity and enterprise IT. He earned both his B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from Southern Illinois University, launching his career at IBM as a senior software engineer focused on internationalization and globalization. He soon moved into leadership as CTO and Director of Development for a translation‑management firm.
While founding and running a regional ISP and telephone company, Dr. Aken returned to SIU to teach application development and completed a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Management Information Systems) with a minor in Computer Science. After successfully exiting his telecom venture, he taught at several universities and consulted on IT infrastructure and cybersecurity.
At Deloitte, Dr. Aken served as a security consulting manager, spearheading the firm’s Zero‑Trust Point of View and delivering maturity assessments and roadmaps for Fortune‑500 clients.
Recruited by Twitter as Zero‑Trust Lead Technical Architect, he produced a roadmap that raised the company’s Zero‑Trust maturity by 362 percent and cut cyber risk by 54 percent. He also created a free, vendor-neutral SaaS tool that organizations worldwide use to self-assess Zero‑Trust maturity.
Most recently, as Vice President of Infrastructure Technology at Fox Rent A Car, Dr. Aken led cybersecurity, networking, DevOps, and service‑desk operations, executed a large-scale cloud migration, and delivered a comprehensive Zero‑Trust roadmap.
A prolific author and educator, Dr. Aken has written six children’s books on security awareness & online safety, a plain‑language guide to the fundamentals of Zero Trust, and a widely read “IT & Cybersecurity Leadership” newsletter with more than 4,500 subscribers.
